Song of the Sea (Shirat HaYam)Every artwork comes with a COA (certificate of authenticity).
The colors in the painting evoke the environmental context of the poetry. “The Song of the Sea” was spoken on land after the crossing of the Red Sea, and the blue and green tones of the painting reflect the song sung during the crossing. The positioning of the letters suggests their movement within the waters.
The inspiration for this song crossed Moses’ mind when he witnessed the miracle—the splitting and crossing of the Red Sea (Rashi, Exodus 15:1). In this sense, the song itself began in the sea.
The letters seem to dance on the canvas, also referencing Miriam’s song and dance with the women. As they sang their own song, they played tambourines in celebration.
